What is a G2 Driver Licence in Ontario?
The G2 driver licence is the second step in Ontario's Graduated Licensing System (GLS). With this licence, you can:
- Drive independently but with some restrictions.
- Carry passengers, provided your vehicle has enough seat belts.
- Drive on all Ontario roads, including highways, with certain limitations.
Eligibility for a G2 Licence:
- Hold a valid G1 licence for at least 12 months (or 8 months if you complete a government-approved driver education course).
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Pass the G2 DriveTest, which evaluates basic driving skills in real-world conditions.
Restrictions of a G2 Licence:
- No alcohol in your bloodstream while driving (zero-tolerance policy).
- Limitations on nighttime driving with young passengers if you're under 20 years old and driving between midnight and 5 a.m.
